tomorrow
By Tony Alabastro
Livelihood courses in meat
preparation and native delicacies will be held tomorrow at the
Filipino Workers Resource Centre in Jalan Madewa of Bunut, the
Philippine Embassy announced yesterday.
Overseas Filipino workers are invited
to attend the afternoon's event from 1 pm for 2 hours in upgrading
skills and capacity-building.
Malay translation and English
proficiency courses are scheduled in February. Second phase of the
basic computer course will be held in March, said Virginia H
Benavidez, Philippine Ambassador to Brunei.
A value orientation session for
overseas OFWs in households and services sector will be held within
the year, she said.
These seminars and briefings aim to
deepen the OFWs' positive attitudes and respect for their jobs,
employers, and the host country, prodding them to do their best and
excel in their work, she said.
"We would like to reach out to the
many OFWs in Brunei and exceed last year's number of 700 that
successfully completed various courses," the ambassador said
The Philippine government, through
the Overseas Workers Welfare Association, will revitalise its
loan-financing programme for OFWs, the embassy said. This will help
them start a new life when they return home for good.
Filipinos intending to avail OWWA's
expanded assistance programme and the embassy's livelihood courses may
contact the Philippine Embassy, c/o Welfare Office Rose Ilo, Mrs Nurul
Hernandez and Ms Haisa Lukman at telephone number 2237053.
