Call for talks over Sg Tujuh post
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
A Malaysian tourism senior council
member recently called for the governments of Brunei Darussalam and
Malaysia to expedite talks to forge for round-the-clock operations at
the border post in Sungai Tujuh, near Kuala Belait.
The post is the main entry point for
both Brunei Darussalam and Sarawak's visitors.
Lee Kim Shin, the Malaysian Tourism
Board Council member, quoted by the Malaysian Malay daily Berita
Harian, said the move would augur well with both countries' aim to
develop their tourism industry.
He said the move was necessary as the
Sungai Tujuh post had been pushed to the limit to cater for
ever-increasing influx of visitors in recent times.
The opening of the Asean Bridge has
contributed to the increase in visitors as it has cut down the
travelling time.
Last year, a total of 1,864,905
visitors passed the Sungai Tujuh control post on their way to either
country.
