To achieve a cleaner and greener
environment, it is important to create awareness amongst all levels of
the community including children.
Standard Chartered Bank in
collaboration with the Department of Environment, Parks and
Recreation, Ministry of Development ensured that this environmental
awareness was successfully instilled in Brunei's future environmental
ambassadors during a Drawing and Colouring contest.
The contest was held last September
2003 at Anggerek Desa Primary School with the theme "A Clean,
Beautiful, and Quality Environment". It was held as part of the Bank's
Community Week 2003 activities.
Some 89 students were presented with
certificates yesterday for their participation in producing colourful
pieces of artwork for the contest.
Twelve winners were presented with
trophies as recognitions for their outstanding artworks. Four of the
best winning entries were incorporated in the form of calendar to
enhance environmental awareness even further.
In appreciation of the Ministry of
Education's support for the contest, Hjh Hasnah Hj Azri, Head of Human
Resources and Corporate Affairs, Standard Chartered Bank presented a
collection of 2004 calendars to Dyg Hajah Apsah Hj Abd Majid, Director
of Schools at the Ministry. With the assistance of the Ministry, these
calendars will be distributed to various schools in the country.
Hans Theilkuhl, CEO of Standard
Chartered Bank said, "We look forward to support future initiatives
that seek to instil a sense of responsibility, build good traits and
promote admirable character developments of a child's progress towards
adulthood. I would like to congratulate the young artistes on their
achievements and thank the Department of Environment for their
support."
