raid
By Liza Mohd
Two Indian nationals were detained
after failing to produce documents during an ambush codenamed "Operasi
Sepadu Buru Tiga" on Wednesday night in Kuala Belait.
The men, in their 30's and residents
of Jalan Sungai Pandan were brought to Panaga Police Station for
further investigation.
Close to 300 foreign workers were
searched during the operation, from 10.30 pm till 3 am.
It involved 30 Kuala Belait
Immigration Officers of the Enforcement Section as well as officers
and personnel from the Belait District Royal Brunei Police Force.
The operation, the first conducted
this year, involved the inspection of foreign work quarters from
Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, India, Bangladesh and Thailand, in
five locations.
The operation, led by Chief
Immigration Officer Awang Sulaiman bin Haji Hidup, commenced at a
house accommodating more than 100 foreign workers in Simpang BLNG
Lumut.
The operation continued with the
inspection of four rented houses at the vicinity of Kg Mumong and
Jalan Sg Pandan.
The operation is a follow up of other
operations conducted last year which aim to detect foreign workers
violating the rules and regulation of the country.
The search was also held to detain
illegal entrants, runaway workers, and overstayers.
The Immigration Department said the
operation towards foreign workers is still ongoing.
The Immigration Department still
finds a few employers failing to prepare relevant documents to make
the inspection on their workers more convenient.
The department recorded 140 workers
compounded for violating the Immigration rules and regulations. Some
38 people were brought to court for the same offence as well as
contravening the Passport Rules and Regulations.
The department had recorded
Indonesian nationals having the highest number of offences compared
with other nationalities.
