Food Dealers Urged To Promote Health Products

Bandar Seri Begawan - Food dealers in Brunei are urged to make sure that food sold or served are of high quality to promote a positively healthy lifestyle in the country.

Professor Wong Mee Lian from Singapore made the appeal at the Health Promotion Seminar for food importers here.

In the country, three diseases are related to obesity such as diabetes, hypertension and heart disease which can cause death.

Professor Wong said every individual and community should practise taking a balanced diet and food importers in particular should be aware of its importance.

“The diseases”, she said, “can be prevented by the adoption of healthy diet”.

Therefore, she urged food importers to support healthy eating habits by increasing the supply of health food products and making them more affordable.

At the seminar, food importers and supermarkets are urged to change the business environment by promoting health products such as by increasing the supply of low fat and low salt food.

About 100 participants attended the one-day seminar, which stressed on the role of specific parties in the food industry and aimed to promote a healthier lifestyle.

The seminar was organised by the Ministry of Health. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
