Local engineers to participate in
race event

The nation's young and talented
engineers are set to have a field day at an event entitled Young
Engineers Race 2004 on January 25.
The event is organised by the Young
Engineers of Pertubuhan Ukur Jurutera dan Arkitek (PUJA) Negara Brunei
Darussalam.
For the race, a maximum of 50 teams
are allowed to enter with two engineers in a team driving their own
vehicle. A team will need to pay an entrance fee of $100.
Top prizes include $1500 in cash,
tickets for two to Kota Kinabalu along with $200 cash and one night
stay at the Empire Hotel and Country Club in Jerudong plus a round of
golf. According to the organiser, participating teams can also win
prizes at the checkpoints along the race route in all the four
districts.
Prospective competitors will meet at
the Institute Technology Brunei at 7.15 am on the race day and a
briefing will be conducted at 8 am. The event will start at 8.30 am
and end at 5 pm with the prize presentation ceremony.
The Young Engineers is a society
within PUJA and comprise undergraduates and graduate engineers who are
at the aged 35 or below.
The society's objectives include
preparing engineers with professional skills vital for the nation's
development, growth and progress; promoting engineers and
undergraduates to share ideas and experiences; developing technical
education in the country; practising engineer ethics and rules;
promoting the practise of Bahasa Melayu in technical field and
promoting understanding and cooperation between young engineers and
engineering students.
Currently Brunei Darussalam has 300
local engineers.
