Police Geared To Handle Challenges

Begawan - At a time when the word `security' has taken a far
greater meaning, the role of police in maintaining peace and stability
in the country has become more challenging.
And handling such challenges with
unity and commitment make the police personnel a special breed that
safeguards the nation.
"Challenges faced by the Royal Brunei
Police Force now is unheard of compared to a decade ago especially
with new kinds of crimes like terrorism, cross border crimes or
transnational crimes," said Dato Paduka Seri Haji Abd Rahman bin Haji
Johan. Commissioner of Police, in his welcoming address at the 83rd
Police Day Parade ceremony at the Royal Brunei Police Headquarters
Training Centre yesterday morning.
"The police force needs to tackle
such challenges with efficiency," he added.
He also said that challenges are also
faced in development as well as expectations from the public towards
the police service.
He believed that the police force
could handle these challenges through a unified effort and continuous
commitment from all levels of the Royal Brunei Police Force.
He hoped all the police personnel
would not take their responsibilities lightly in safeguarding the
peace and security of the country.
He stressed the importance of every
uniformed personnel to work together closely at every level and
shoulder the responsibilities of keeping the country safe from crime.
He outlined two projects namely the
"Neighbourhood Village Committee" (Jawatankuasa Kejiranan Kampong) and
"Villages Consultative Committee" (Jawatankuasa Perundingan Kampong)
whereby the Royal Brunei Police Force in each area would work closely
with the public to wipe out the negative image of the police.
Speaking about His Majesty's New Year
Address, he urged every police personnel to raise their quality of
services, especially relating to matters that affect many people.
