Bandar Seri
Begawan - A 29-year-old unemployed local woman was fined $2,000
or serve 4 months’ imprisonment if default of payment after she
pleaded guilty to committing theft of cash and stealing one Automated
Teller Machine (ATM) card with the ATM pin card number.
Miko
binti Ishak admitted to withdrawing a total of $1,200 from the
Hongkong and Shanghai Bank ATM at a building in Jalan Maulana, Seria,
nearly two years ago after she found an ATM card inside a bag.
The prosecuting officer said the
defendant went out shopping in Tutong with her Chinese friend before
they went to Seria Plaza in the afternoon of the same day intending to
go to the salon.
In the car on their way there, her
friend complained that the zipper of her bag was damaged and she
decided to throw the bag away. As they reached Seria Plaza, her friend
then got out of the car and asked the defendant to throw the bag for
her.
The defendant then went to the back
alley of Seria Plaza where the dumpsters were located, the prosecutor
said. Before she threw the bag, she checked the bag again and found
the HSBC ATM card with the pin number.
Not long after that, the defendant
went to the nearby ATM and tried the card with its pin number to make
a withdrawal. -- Courtesy
