BLNG Changes Its “Heart” To Ensure
Brunei’s 30-Year Gas Production
Bandar Seri
Begawan – The Brunei Liquefied Natural Gas (BNLG) plant has
embraced the latest technology to assure Brunei of its gas production
for the next 30 years.
BLNG
replaced the main cryogenic heat exchanger, the major component of the
plant, to a mulch new design in line with the latest technology.
The replacement is one of the 20
major activities to be carried out under BLNG's asset reference plan
for a much more sustainable future for the country.
Known as the heart of the plant, the
first two components are expected to arrive at the end of the month.
The heat exchanger is manufactured in
Germany and the design is not identical to the previous type, which
was made in the United States.
This means more challenges have to be
faced and that the activity will be carried out within two years.
Each main cryogenic heat exchanger
weighs 100 tonnes, 35 metres high and consists of 100 kilometres tube
winding.
Dato
Haji Hamdillah, Managing Director Brunei LNG, explained that the
replacement of the main cryogenic heat exchanger will further
strengthen the country's economy and integrity in the long term.
The $120 million replacement project
will be conducted in two phases.
The replacement of the first two heat
exchangers will be carried out within this year and the remaining two
by next year.
The replacement of the equipment is
the first in an LNG plant in the world in which BLNG is leading the
way.
Since it first production in 1973,
more than 4,000 ships have loaded at the jetty for the power plants in
Japan and Korea.
Last year, BLNG recorded 214 cargoes,
the highest shipment in the company's history. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
