Little Newborn Hakim Saved From
Stray Dogs Doing Fine
Bandar Seri
Begawan – The abandoned newborn baby boy, left behind in a box
clad only in diapers on Sunday, is reportedly doing well at the Raja
Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital here.
No one knows exactly how long this
baby was left in the cold exposed to the elements.
Radio Television Brunei (RTB) news
reported that this unfortunate baby was dumped unceremoniously at a
rubbish dump near the mortuary of the RIPAS hospital.
His survival really depended on the
mercy of Allah the Almighty as the baby could easily have become the
prey to dogs and other stray animals, RTB commented.
Two cleaners of the hospital became
the saviours of the baby when they stumbled upon him at about 6am on
Sunday.
Doctors believed the baby is less
than a month old.
Five hours later, after having been
carefully bathed and cared for, the infant is said to be doing well
apart from suffering from some minor insect bites on his forehead.
The baby will now be cared for under
the close supervision of the RIPAS hospital's children ward.
The child has been named Abdul Hakim
Mukminin.
This incident is a most uncivilized
kind of action, RTB commented. It is unacceptable and it is inhumane.
However, it must be a lesson for
everyone and it should lead to a thorough investigation on why such an
act could happen here, the RTB news report added. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
