Brunei to participate in two
resolutions
Brunei Darussalam will always
continue to support regional and international efforts through forums
such as the Asean Regional Forum, the Asia Pacific Economic
Cooperation, the Asia Europe Meeting and the United Nations in the
fight against terrorism.
This was the continuing pledge made
by Brunei Darussalam at the end of the fourth Asean Ministerial
Meeting on Transnational Crime in Bangkok, RTB reported.
The Permanent Secretary at the Prime
Minister's Office, Dato Paduka Haji Dani, highlighted that Brunei had
agreed to participate in two international resolutions that were
agreed upon at the Bangkok meeting, namely the Agreement on
Information Exchange and Establishment of Communications Procedures
and the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing
of Terrorism.
At the same time, a national
committee on transnational crime has also been set up to coordinate
this operation.
The permanent secretary pointed out
that Asean and its plus three members, China, Japan and South Korea
all agreed to strengthen their cooperation to counter eight categories
of transnational crimes, which are terrorism, drugs smuggling, human
trafficking especially women and children, piracy, arms smuggling,
money laundering, transnational financial crimes and cyber crimes.
He went on to add that Asean was also
well on the way towards establishing the Asean Security Community.
