Iraqi Big Walk Charity Held At
National Stadium

Begawan – The Humanitarian Fund for the Iraqi civilians has
received an encouraging response from everyone in Brunei.
For example, nearly 6,000 people from
all walks of life turned up at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium
to take part in the charity walkathon for the humanitarian fund
yesterday.
Prior to the walkathon, the Minister
of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Dato Dr Haji Awang Hussain, who is
also the co-adviser of the executive committee of the fund received
financial contributions from several representatives of ministries,
government departments and private firms.
The Ministry of Education donated
$18,177.
Participants can also make their
personal contributions to the fund box provided by officers of the
department of community development.
There was also an aerobic session
just before the walkathon.
The Pehin Dato Dr Haji Awang Hussain,
the Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Dato Dr Ustaz Haji Mohd Zain,
and the Minister of Health, Pehin Dato Awang Haji Abu Bakar, led the
participants.
They walked within the vicinity of
the national stadium.
The men’s group covered 4.8
kilometres while the women walked three kilometres.
Walkathon executive committee for
health and fitness conducted the event.
The Humanitarian Fund for the Iraqi
civilians was set up in April 14 as a national effort to held ease the
sufferings of the Iraqis following the war in their country.
To date, the fund has collected more
