The Queen Calls For Sharing Of
Fruits Of Modern Technology

Begawan – Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha
has called on government and non-government organisations around the
world to work together to ensure everyone shared the fruits of
technology particularly the populations of the developing and least
developed countries.
Her Majesty said advances in
technology have also heightened awareness towards the protection of
the natural environment and the dangers posed by pollution to the air
we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat.
Her Majesty made the titah when
officiating at the opening of the 7th Area Conference Associated
Country Women of the World (ACWW) for Southeast Asia and the Far East.
On arrival at the International
Convention Centre in Berakas Her Majesty was welcomed by members of
the organising committee.
Also present were Kebawah Duli Yang
Teramat Mulia Tengku Puan Pahang Tengku Azizah Aminah Maimunah
Iskandariah Binti Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj, Her Royal Highness Princess
Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah
Masna and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Umi Kalthom Al Islam.
The ceremony proceeded with the
recitation of surah al fatihah and doa selamat.
The co-chairperson of the organising
committee, Datin Hajah Masni, among others said in this age of
globalization and efficient communications it is only appropriate that
women make use of ICT in working together and sharing knowledge and
experiences in best practices in solving current issues and problems
for the well-being and quality of life for women.
The heads of member societies also
made their greetings.
In her titah, Her Majesty also noted
that women in particular have to be very aware of the health hazards
posed by pollution, since in many households women are responsible for
sourcing food for the family and the healthcare of their young ones.
Her Majesty went on to say that the
issue of violence against women should also be major concern to all
women.
Her Majesty also consented to receive
a souvenir from the organising committee.
Her Majesty and other members of the
royal family had a closer look on an exhibition put up in conjunction
with the conference.
The one-week conference which carries
a theme, "Working with women worldwide" is hosted by Women's Institute
of Brunei Darussalam with the cooperation of Department of Youth and
Sports, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
ACWW’s
aims are to improve the standard of living of women, their families
and communities through a worldwide network of advocacy and grass
roots projects.
Bandar Seri Begawan – The second
group of 249 haj pilgrims joining the darussalam holding package left
Brunei yesterday at about 12.30pm to perform the haj in the holy
cities of Medina and Mecca in Saudi Arabia this year.
As usual, hundreds of relatives and
friends thronged the Brunei International Airport to bid safe journey
to their beloved ones when performing the haj.
The pilgrims joining the Darussalam
Holding in the third Royal Brunei Airlines special chartered flight is
scheduled today at 2.30pm.
In this respect, haj pilgrims are
once again- reminded to check-in their baggage’s, from 7pm to 9pm a
day before their departure flight.
While waiting for boarding, the haj
pilgrims were served with drinks provided at the departure hall.
