Call To Improve Vocational Schools
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The number of students undergoing courses in
vocational schools should match those who opted for academic studies
at secondary education, educationists said.
They said in developed countries the
ratio is roughly equal.
They added that plans must be drafted
to build up more vocational schools including offering the private
sector to open up such institutions because many job opportunities are
available in vocational fields.
"At present we are totally dependent
on huge number of foreign workers to provide the vocational skills
because our school leavers were not trained for such expertise."
They added the curriculum of
vocational school must also be improved which require such
institutions to provide entrepreneurial skills courses for students at
all levels so they could run their own businesses instead of becoming
employees after graduation.
