Family Reunion For 90-Yr-Old After
50 Years
By Liza Mohd
Seria -
A 90-year-old man, staying at Seria old folks home, was in for a
surprise when he found a long lost relative from his homeland - the
Republic of China - after losing contact with his family for over five
decades.
Kwang
Onn had left Guangdong, China as an energetic 23-year-old to travel
the world in search of a job. He reached Brunei and landed a job in a
construction company.
Though he stayed in touch with his
family in China by sending money to them, his lack of education saw
the bond being broken.
And after more than 50 years, a
relative of his came calling yesterday much to the nonagenarian's
surprise.
His nephew's son unexpectedly showed
up at the Seria old folk's home to take him back to China. The money
he had sent was enough to purchase two houses in Guangdong, which is
more than enough to accommodate him, according to his nephew's son.
Kwang
Onn, who has remained single, was at first hesitant to go back to
China after he was told that his mother and brother had passed away.
He also had second thoughts of going back there since he had left his
homeland many decades ago.
Now depending on whether his passport
would be renewed, he will be on his way back to China.
"It all depends on whether I like the
place and the environment, otherwise I would come back to Brunei,"
said Kwang Onn.
Two years ago a 100-year-old man was
also brought back to China after his son had come to take him from the
Seria old folks home. --
