Imposter Slapped With 4 Months Jail
By Malai FadleyRizal

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 32 year-old Indonesian ended up staying for a longer period than he wished when he was just about to leave Brunei when the BSB Magistrates' Court sentenced him to four months' imprisonment after the man pleaded guilty to impersonating yesterday.

Achmad Romli was charged with impersonating Mataufiq Samuri, holder of an Indonesian passport issued in Jakarta Timur April 29 last two years.

Prosecuting Officer of the Immigrations Department, Moharefandi Hj Md Tahir clarified before Magistrate Muhammed Faisal PD Hj Keflie that an Immigration officer at the Brunei International Airport Immigration Control Post stopped Achmad when the defendant produced his passport for departure clearance which showed a different photo Friday night.

The defendant was about to leave for Surabaya, Indonesia.

However, the officer gave Achmad a Special Pass to compel his appearance at the Immigration Enforcement Division of the Immigration Department on that day.

The defendant showed up and investigations showed that Achmad knew that he was holding an altered passport. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
