Youths Told To Take Part In
Kampong Activities
Tutong
– Youth in Brunei are urged to join in any activities of their
respective kampong associations to keep themselves away from negative
elements in this era of globalisation.
The reminder was highlighted in the
working paper entitled, "Youth's movement as a platform for youth's
excellence" or "Pergerakan belia sebagai wadah kecemerlangan belia"
presented at a seminar on youth leadership held in the Tutong District
yesterday.
The paper presented by Awang Haji
Mohd Zain Bin Tengah, Vice President of the Tutong Youth Council,
touched on the youth's movement as a platform for youth to create an
opportunity.
This, he said, was especially for
leaders of the youth associations to interact with leaders of the
community and country in order to close the gap between the
generations.
The country's population statistics
in 2000 showed more than 150,000 youths, who were between 15 and 40
years of age in the country.
Some 90 youths from youth
associations and secondary schools in the Tutong District are
attending the three-day seminar. It is aimed at producing future youth
leaders for youth associations in the country.
To date, there are 17 active youth
associations affiliated with the Tutong Youth Council.
The youth leadership seminar will
continue this Sunday with more working papers, including one on the
roles of non-governmental organisation in development being tabled for
discussion. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
