Govt Servants Netted In Gambling Raid
By M K Anwar

Bandar Seri Begawan - Luck is running out for gambling Brunei government servants expected to appear in court soon and shown a lesson.

Police swooping on unsuspecting local gamblers among whom were also government servants, outside a house in Kampung Kiarong on midnight Thursday, urged the public to be vigilant against such offenders at all times.

Caught off-guard in a tip-off from the public, CID personnel led by DSO Brunei ASP Ariffin Hj Jafarudin caught the surprised gamblers red handed playing ‘katam-katam’ in a garden hut in full view of the public.

A total of B$1,313 of gambling money was confiscated together with other gambling paraphernalia.

Sources said the gambling activities had been going on for some time now. All nine suspects were taken to the Bandar Police Station for further questioning.

Taking into account most raids had been initiated by tip-offs, police urged the public that they welcome any information on criminal activities by contacting the nearest police station. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
