Land Rover's new 2004 Freelander was
unveiled yesterday at the QAF Showroom in Beribi to a large crowd of
4X4 enthusiasts, who came to ogle at the updated baby of the famous
family of off-roaders.
Salerpersons
were busy attending to visitors making inquiries about the latest
innovations and designs of the vehicle.
The 2004 Freelander boasts a fresh
exterior as well as some modifications to its interior.
For the Brunei market, there is a
choice of a 3-door or 5-door with only the diesel engine available.
The 5-door Estate is powered by a 2.0 diesel. The 3-door comes in
Softback and Hardback.
An apparent change is that the new
Freelander has adopted the fresh look of the clear Range Rover-like
over-lapping headlights as well as upgraded features to the rear.
A cup holder on its centre dashboard
is available in all 2004 Freelanders. The vehicle is factory fitted
with a single-CD player engineered by Harman/Kardon.
The showroom price of the 5-door
model, which is the only model available at the moment, is about
$59,000.
Some electronic "feature" buttons
have been relocated for the convenience of the driver.
The instrument dial has been changed
- each of the indicator dials is specially framed with an
aluminium-like ring. The gear shift is also framed at its base to give
it a sporty but classy look.
The Freelander is still equipped with
full-time four-wheel drive, plus high-tech electronic driving aids
such as Hill Descent Control (HDC) and Electronic Traction Control
(ETC) to maintain the vehicle's status as a premium compact 4x4, which
is agile, practical and outstanding on and off the road.
