Brunei-Sabah Friendly Match Is Off
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Sabah football team have unexpectedly cancelled
their pre-season tour of Brunei which includes both friendly matches
scheduled against the Brunei National team and local B-League
powerhouse DPMMC FC.
The Brunei football Association
received notification of the cancellation yesterday through a fax from
the Sabah FA stating their regret in having to call off the trip at
such short notice.
No formal reason was given as to the
cancellation but it is a big blow to Brunei who had been hoping to
catch a glimpse of their African import Ouegraogo Souleymane against
some top class opposition.
Defender Souleymane is here on trial
having arrived in Brunei on Wednesday and will have to wait for
another chance to impress the BAFA management.
Sabah
were supposed to play against the Brunei national team tonight at the
JBS Stadium before completing their two-match tour on Sunday afternoon
again DPMMC FC.
Instead now, the Brunei national team
will take DPMM FC in a friendly match tonight also at the JBS Stadium.
Meanwhile Brunei will soon know their
first opponents for the new Malaysia League season when the draw is
conducted on Sunday, January 11 in Kuala Lumpur.
The new season kicks off in just over
a moth’s time on February 15 and with the format comprising of the
recently formed Super League and the Premier League, Brunei will be
hoping that 2004 brings about a major change in fortunes.
