BLNG Embarks On Plant Upgrading
Project
Kuala Belait –
Brunei Liquified Natural Gas (BLNG) embarks on a half billion
dollars mammoth project to replace and upgrade some of the plants.
The project is carried out under the
BLNG life for the next 30 years and also ensuring reliable supply of
LNG to its buyers.
One of the activities to be carried
out as part of the plan is the replacement of the Main Cryogenic Heat
Exchangers (MCHE).
The replacement involves four out of
the five MCHE after reaching the end of their technical service life
and in service for 30 years.
The process will take place within
two years at the cost of $120 million.
Each MCHE weighs 100 tonnes and
34.5-meter high and consists of 100-kilometer long tube winding.
The first shipment of two MCHE will
arrive in Muara on January 28 and the other two will be by January
2005.
A briefing was held to inform various
parties in the government and private sectors that the project
requires precise logistic coordination in transporting the massive
MCHE equipment from Muara and Kuala Belait ports to BLNG plant.
The journey to transport the
structures will involve roads from Kuala Belait port to BLNG which may
cause inconvenient to the public.
Dato
Haji Hamdilah, BNLG Managing Director, made the briefing.
The BLNG plant began producing its
first LNG in 1973.
Being one of the first LNG plants to
start up in the early 70s, it is now that BLNG is the first that
starts replacing major parts anywhere in the world. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
