By Rol Ezam

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 49-year-old local man who sold a bottle of ‘Arak Putih’ (White Wine), which he claimed was to help a customer for medical uses, was fined $3,000 or 6 months imprisonment in default by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The wine was brought by Sia Yin Kait, a third offender, from Limbang, Sarawak for his personal consumption as noted in the Customs Permit but he sold the said liquor for $11 to his customer, said the Royal Customs and Excise Department prosecutor, ASC Hj Ahmad Hj Abd Rahman.

Hj Ahmad told the court that the defendant also confessed that he had done this before.

The defendant was caught on a tip off from member of the public by a group of Police officers from the Sengkurong Police Station who conducted a raid on a shop named Chop Bee Liang in Kg Sengkurong in December last year. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
