Indian Man Fined Ferrying Illegal Goods On Bicycle

Bandar Seri Begawan - An Indian man was fined $600 or a month in jail by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for conveying 130 packets of various cigarettes without the Brunei health warning.

Kadappan Solai Alagan, 29, was riding a bicycle at the vicinity of Simpang 146, Jalan Sungai Pandan in Kuala Belait. He was detained by a group of Customs Preventive officers who later found the cigarettes kept in a black bag.

Royal Customs and Excise Department prosecutor, ASC Hj Ahmad Hj Abd Rahman said the defendant admitted buying the cigarettes from a Malay man, known only as ‘Haji’. He wanted to sell the cigarettes to Indonesian workers at a construction sites for $1.50 per-packet, said the prosecutor. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
