Collapsing bridge needs attention
By Azlan Jaini

Land erosion occurs under the bridge after heavy rain.

A 20-metre bridge which is in danger of collapse due to soil erosion has caused inconvenience to villagers who depend on the structure to reach their village.

For safety reason, the affected villagers had stopped using the bridge as signs of cracks have appeared and the villagers said that the worse is yet to come.

According to them, severe soil erosion that occurred under the bridge has weakened the bridge's structure and thus causing the concrete to crack, decay and gradually collapse.

One of the villagers, Awang Hj Maruf Sanudin, aged 60, said they were concerned not only about the accessibility of the bridge but also the electricity cables as well as water pipes underneath the bridge.

He added that during heavy rains, the bridge would be covered with a thick layer of mud causing nuisance to the users of the bridge especially to the elderly people living in the area and those who are carrying heavy load while crossing the bridge.
