Brunei-Sabah Friendly Tomorrow
By Benny Ang
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Brunei national football team will be hosting
Borneo neighbours and Malaysia Cup runners-up Sabah in a pre-season
football friendly tomorrow, January 9.
The match will take place at 8pm at
the JBS Complex. Berakas and will be an invaluable chance for both
sides to gain some match fitness with the start of the Malaysia League
just one month away.
Sabah
will also play a second match on Sunday afternoon at the Jerudong Mini
Stadium against B-League runners up DPMM FC.
For now, the Brunei team will
continue under the guidance of Zainuddin Kassim as coach and Rosanan
Samak as his assistant although BAFA have not ruled out the
possibility of engaging a foreign coach for this season just yet.
Mark Williams' contract has not been
renewed and he will definitely not be featuring for the Wasps despite
his consistency in leading the rearguard.
However, they have already retained
the services of Australian Brian Iman Abdullah Bothwell for another
season at least so they have another maximum of three additional
import spots to fill.
One potential import is hereon trial
and will feature in the friendly against Sabah. Nineteen year-old
defender Ouedraogo. Souleymane from Burkina Paso arrived in Brunei
yesterday and will be given an early chance to impress the Brunei
management.
But there is no news on when any
additional import players will arrive to try their hand in playing for
Brunei.
Sabah
themselves are also in the midst of trying to finalise their import
Lineup despite having retained the services of their two imports in
Robert Gaspar and Keith Gumbs.
With the additional import being
allowed, the Sabah coach has been given the task of selecting the
final player and will use the game against Brunei as a chance to gauge
potential import players.
