By Malai FadleyRizal
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A 27-year-old Indonesian was sentenced to jail for
three months yesterday after he pleaded guilty to impersonating a
fellow countryman.
The Magistrate’s Court heard from the
immigration prosecuting officer that Anang Suparno was arrested at the
premises of Brutex Manufacturing Company Sdn Bhd at Jalan Perusahaan
Perindustrian Serasa in Muara on suspicion of impersonation by
immigration officers who were acting on a tip-off at about 3.05 pm on
January 6, this year.
Anang
Suparno was brought to the enforcement division of the Immigration
Department for investigation, which revealed that the defendant was
offered work in Brunei Darussalam as a tailor when he met an
employment agent in Indonesia named ‘Ujang’.
Anang
Suparno agreed to this offer and he paid 7 million Indonesian rupiah
to ‘Ujang’.
The defendant told investigators that
‘Ujang’ gave him a passport, which was endorsed with a Brunei
employment visa, however, he found out that the passport bore the
picture, birth date and name of another Indonesian man, Tekad Nalury
Tursidi.
Using the passport, he managed to
enter Brunei from Malaysia through the Sungai Tujoh Immigration
Control Post and was given a work pass valid until October this year.
