By Dk Suria Rina PHA

Bandar Seri Begawan - An alert cashier and swift action by police led to a suspected phone card thief being nabbed after the local youth allegedly robbed a grocery shop in Jln Muara.

The youth, in his 20s, reportedly stole more than 100 pieces of phone cards and some cash from Sasha Food grocery shop in Kg Sungai Tilong, Jalan Muara on January 3 and jumped into a waiting car and sped away.

DCO Berakas, DSP Yakub, who led the investigation, told the Bulletin they received a complaint from the cashier of the shop at 11.30 that night.

According to the cashier’s report, he saw the suspect coming into the shop and open up the drawer where all the cards were kept. He quickly grabbed the cards and some cash and got into a car and sped away, the report added.

The cashier tried to stop the man but in vain. However, the cashier managed to jot down the registration number of the suspect’s car and made a report at the Berakas Police Station.

Police swung into action and on January 6 DSP Yakub with help from Berakas District CID managed to arrest the suspect. According to DSP Yakub all the stolen items were discovered from the suspect.

The suspect has been brought to the police station and is now under detention for further investigation. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
