Foreman Fined Over Illegal Employment

Bandar Seri Begawan - A Malaysian man was fined B$2,000 by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for employing two illegal foreigners.

Loh Boon Sen, 34, pleaded guilty to employing a 21-year-old Malaysian, Stevevelly Anak Bonua, as a welder and Naina Mohamed Kader Mydeen, 36, as a labourer.

According to the Immigration Prosecutor, Stevevelly was a holder of a Social Visit Pass to this country and was found to have engaged himself in paid employment with the defendant since July last year with a B$30 daily wage.

Meanwhile Naina, an Indian national, was a holder of an expired Social Visit Pass and had been working with the defendant between July 7 last year and received a daily wage of B$15, said the Prosecutor.

Both the foreigners were arrested August 11 last year by Immigration Officers from the Enforcement Division at Arzy Enterprise located at Jln Gadong.

It is an offence under Section 55(1)(ii) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17 for employing immigrations offenders which carries a maximum sentence of imprisonment not exceeding two years and a fine not exceeding B$6,000. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
