Brunei Highlights Major Religious
Events In Islamic Calendar

Begawan – Brunei will commemorate events in the Islamic
calendar for the 1425 Hijrah corresponding to 2004 with major
religious celebrations.
This was among the agenda discussed
at the meeting of the executive committee of the celebrations for the
Islamic events and the final of the National Level Al-Quran Reading
Competition for Adult for the year 1425 hijrah.
Pehin Dato Dr Ustaz Haji Awang Mohd
Zain, Minister of Religious Affairs, chaired the meeting yesterday in
his capacity as chairman of the Islamic big events celebration
committee.
The first to be celebrated is the New
Year of 1425 hijrah.
The event will be highlighted with
the presentation of various religious awards. It is expected to be
held on February 21, 2004.
The second event is Prophet
Muhammad’s birthday celebration on May 2. It will be highlighted with
mass gathering and procession which will be held simultaneously
throughout the four districts.
The calendar also includes the final
of the National Level of Al-Quran reading competition for adult. This
event will be held for two nights in a row on August 2 and 3, 2004.
This year's Isra' Mikraj celebration
will highlight the announcement of the Anugerah Takmir Masjid for this
year. It is expected to be held on September 12, 2004.
Meanwhile, the Nuzul Al-Quran
celebration will highlight the announcement of the winners of the
memorising of Al-Quran and selected surahs.
The event is expected to be held on
October 30, 2004.
The proposed theme for this year's
Islamic big events celebration is 'Cintakan Negara Sebahagian Iman'
