BDEC report on the challenges

Strengthening the private sector involves the following related challenges:

- expanding its size through privatisation and foreign investment;

- encouraging local and foreign investments through reducing or simplifying government policies and procedures that have a bearing on its enterprise;

- developing local SMEs through easier access to financing;

- encouraging investment in Brunei Darussalam by reviewing and revising restrictions on the ownership or development of land and its use as collateral to raise financing;

- facilitating its liquidity through ensuring prompt government payments and expanding or enhancing competitiveness of the oil and gas industry.
