Mulaut Abattoir now accepting
reservations for ‘Feast of Sacrifice'
By Maya Salleh
As the Haj season approaches, many
Muslims in the Sultanate are preparing for the 'Feast of Sacrifice' -
which falls on Hari Raya Aidiladha - by reserving livestock to be
slaughtered on the auspicious days.
The Mulaut Abattoir is currently
accepting reservations at all outlets - Jerudong, Muara, Rimba,
Lambak, Tutong and soon at Kiulap - and interested parties are
required to fill-in forms obtainable at the abovementioned places.
Reservations have been accepted ever
since January 5, (from 8 am to 5 pm) and will run daily except for
Sunday. The last day of reservation, however, will be on Sunday,
January 25.
According to a source from Mulaut
Abattoir, the price of a live cow is $3.95 per kilogramme, buffalo is
$4.10 per kilogramme and a live goat is priced at $220 per head.
The slaughtering service is free,
whereas services such as skinning the animal or pre-packing will be
charged accordingly.
The public is advised to make
reservations early to avoid disappointment.
Amidst fears of recent news of the
recurrence of the 'Mad Cow' disease, the source clarified that all
livestock supplied by the abattoir undergoes screening by the
Agricultural Department and the Religious Affairs Department.
This is to ensure that the livestock
is not only free from the 'Mad Cow' disease but from other ailments as
well.
The abattoir supplies livestock that
meets its high standards in terms of health and quality as well as
meeting the standards set by the Religious Affairs Department.
The livestock is scheduled to arrive
on January 15.
