By Dk Suria Rina PHA
For the second time, the British
Council will hold the Real UK 2004 Competition. Approved by the
Ministry of Education, this exciting competition is open to students
aged between 16 and 18-years-old.
Ms Amanda Criffiths, Director of the
British Council of Brunei, stated that the entry this year was similar
to last year. Entrants need to make a personal video presentation
saying who they are and where they are from. They need to tell British
Council of their aspirations for studying and career and their
impression of the United Kingdom as well as how it may provide the
opportunities they seek.
She added that a tape or CD of the
video need to be brought to the British Council together with the
entry form signed by their parents and tutor.
The major prize for this exciting
competition is an all expense paid trip to the UK for two weeks for
two winners from Brunei. The journey will begin on March 13, 2004 and
end on March 27. The second week of the trip coincides with the Brunei
Term 1 School Holiday.
The two winners last year, Dyg Siti
Reyhanah and Dyg Rina Rahmizah, had a wonderful time in the UK. They
travelled from London to Cardiff before heading north to Liverpool and
on to Scotland. They visited several universities and the British
industry organisation and even went to a football match before
attending a high level reception in London.
The competition will close on January
16 at 5 pm. Final judging will take place in the third week of January
2004 and the two winners will be announced on January 30 at a major
public event showcasing the best entries. For more details, contact
the British Council at 2237742 ext 25 or visit the website
