Maid Pleads Guilty To Slapping Infant

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 20-year-old Indonesian maid pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court yesterday to repeatedly slapping a 10-month-old infant on the head and face after the baby refused to eat and stop crying.

Nanik Sulistyowati, working as a maid for the first time and who only started work less than a month ago, awaits her fate on Thursday.

Pending sentence, she was remanded at the Jerudong Prison. The maid faces an imprisonment term that may extend to 7 years with 10 strokes of the cane or fine not exceeding $20,000 or both.

She committed the offence between December 31 last year and January 1 this year at a house in Kampong Jangsak, Gadong. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
