Man pleads guilty to drug charges

A local man was jailed for three
years and five months yesterday after he pleaded guilty to a charge of
consuming and possessing controlled drugs and two charges of
possessing utensils used for the consumption of controlled drugs
before the Magistrates' Court.
Senior Magistrate Hj Abdullah Soefri
heard from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Prosecuting Officer that
Hj Dahlan Hj Sudin was arrested by NCB personnel near the Immigration
Control Post at the vicinity of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal
Bolkiah building in Bandar Seri Begawan on suspicion of drug related
activities on July 5, 2002.
Furthermore the court heard that NCB
personnel found crystalline substances kept in a clear plastic which
was stored in a pink plastic container and they also found a modified
apparatus in the container believed to be used to administer
controlled drugs. All items were found on the defendant when body
searched was conducted.
The defendant was then taken to his
house where the he surrendered to NCB personnel another apparatus. The
personnel found another apparatus in the defendant's bedroom. The
seized items and the defendant were taken to the NCB headquarters and
personnel took a urine sample of the defendant, which was sent to the
Scientific Services Department (SSD) for analysis together with the
seized items. The SSD found that Hj Dahlan's urine sample tested
positive for a class A drug, Methylamphetamine, popularly known as
Syabu.
Meanwhile, the crystalline substances
were found to contain 0.0576 grammes of Syabu while all the apparatus
were found to contain traces of the same controlled drug.
