Beware of technological pitfalls
By Maya Salleh
With the rapid advancement of
technology in banking and finance, users need to be extra cautious
when making transactions especially on-line (Internet), phone and
mobile banking transactions, as carelessness may cost customers
dearly.
Recently, a customer of a leading
bank in Brunei made a mistake that cost her a month's salary. She
reportedly transferred money from her account to her father's account
through the phone banking facility.
Unfortunately she keyed in the wrong
account number and the money was credited to someone else's account.
She tried to seek help from the bank,
but was unable to retract the money from the account, as she required
consent from the account holder.
Through her unfortunate incident, she
advised other users to take their time and to be fully alert in making
their transactions to avoid similar incident.
