Police are requesting and reminding the public, particularly road users in Belait District, to maintain the quality of road safety in order to prevent further occurrences of car accidents in the district.

Police records show a fall in road traffic offences for 2003 in comparison to previous years, it is understood.

Belait District Inspector Pg Aliuddin bin Pg Hj Hitam noted that they would routinely conduct road inspections from Jalan Sg Teraban till the vicinity of Mukim Sg Liang Lumut to prevent occurrences in relation to road traffic offences in the district.

Meanwhile, during a roadblock in the vicinity of Jalan Singa Menteri yesterday morning, several road users were detained for breaching traffic rules and regulations, which include driving without licence, expired road tax and car modification.

Insp Pg Aliuddin had also warned those who were found to have breached the traffic regulations to take heed of warning given to them by police.

While the operation was conducted, police also detected further criminal activities. The roadblock was extended into the night.
