40 Foreign Workers Detained In Roadblock

Bandar Seri Begawan - Task Force personnel of the Muara Police yesterday conducted a roadblock in Muara Town to check valid documents of foreign workers.

The operation called "Crime Prevention 104" led to 40 foreign workers being detained for further questioning.

Roadblocks are routinely held by the Muara Police Task Force at various areas in Muara Town such as Kampong Sabun area and Selia Ali Muara Mosque Road.

The roadblock was set up to also check on drivers and passengers.

During yesterday morning's operation, several foreign workers were queried and their documents were checked.

A majority of those who were checked were factory workers who failed to furnish proper documents to show their validity of slay in the country. In most of the cases, it was found out, that the workers' employers had failed to provide them with necessary documents to show that they were working in the country.

It is an employer's responsibility to provide such documents to his/her employees that they need to carry with them.

The operation was headed by Muara Police Station (OCPD, Pg Kamaludin Pg Hj Jaya, along with 26 senior and junior officers.

Pg Kamaludin said the operation was meant to check the inflow of illegal substances from being smuggled into Brunei from neighbouring countries.

The police reminded foreign workers to always carry with them proper identification papers and also advised employers to provide such papers to their employees. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
