Two locals, Pg Hj Abu Bakar Pg DP Hj
Mohamad, the Managing Director of Phab Production; and Afina Willy
Edwin, a full-time local actress; yesterday went to Kota Kinabalu for
a joint-venture Malay telemovie by the aforementioned production house
in Brunei and Sabah's Pelangi Production.
Another veteran artiste who will also
be featured is Pg Hjh Rokiah Pg Hj Abdullah, but she did not join them
as her parts will be shot in the Sultanate, which should make up 20
per cent of the locations in a later stage.
The agreement towards production of
Dayangku was signed last October at the Crowne Princess Hotel
Restaurant in Mile One of Jalan Tutong by the Advisor of Phab
Production, Pg Kerma Negara Pg Anak Hj Abd Wahab Pg Sabtu Kamaluddin;
and Executive Chairman of Pelangi Production, Senator Datuk Hjh Dk
Mahani Tun Pengiran Hj Ahmad Rafaee.
When completed, the telemovie will be
reproduced in VCD form for public sale and to be shown on Astro
television. Local actress Afina takes the leading role of Dayangku
Anum while Pg Hj Abu Bakar assumes the role of her father and Pg Hjh
Rokiah, the mother.
The story follows Pg Matusin, a
Bruneian who ran away to Sabah many years ago, resulting from a family
feud over inheritance.
His elder brother, Pg Badar, was not
satisfied as he was not entitled to a better deal from or larger
portion of the inheritance, which was penned by their father, Pg Rauf,
just before his death.
He then threatened to kill Pg Matusin
so the latter ran away, assuming the name of Pak Awang.
The character takes on traditional
entertainment as his career while venturing from one place to another
armed with a gong and recites syair, literary pieces of creative work.
Dayangku
Mayang who was visiting Sabah hears one of these recitals and coaxes
him into telling his life story. At long last, Pak Awang reveals his
ancestry that he has kept secret over the last thirty years.
Out of sheer coincidence, Dayangku
Anum's mother was actually his former sweetheart. If you would like to
know how this tale concludes, then see the film.
