Students Troop To Schools Again
Bandar Seri
Begawan – New and old pupils and students began trooping to
their schools as the school season for the year 2004 started
yesterday.
For new pupils, schooling environment
is totally a new sight and situation, and parents are the busiest,
grooming and dressing up their young children who were to start
schooling.
Secondary and primary school students
also began their first school term today after a month-long school
holidays.
Some primary schools nationwide also
received pupils for pre-school classes yesterday.
Various expressions either happy or
sombre were seen from their faces.
For this little girl, Wan Siti
Maizura Binti Wan Zulandi, entering in a different environment such as
a classroom together with other children, was strange to her.
It's different for Joane Exclase Wee.
She was happy joining her friends of different races in one class.
Although most of the children seemed
uncomfortable of the new environment, the presence of parents and
guardians helped them through.
Some even said it was fun.
This year, more than 3,800 pupils
were registered at the primary schools.
The number was about a 100 lesser
than that of year 2002.
This was so as some parents preferred
to send their children to private schools for their pre-schooling.
This year, there are four school
terms covering 200 days.
Secondary school classes also resumed
yesterday causing a slow movement of traffic in some areas at schools.
However, students of secondary one
will join the school tomorrow.
Last year, 29,494 students registered
with the secondary schools.
The number was higher than the
previous year with 28,916.
It was a similar scene at religious
schools throughout the country.
Registration for religious classes is
still open. However, acceptance of some students to the schools will
be considered in accordance with their addresses of residence. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
