PPPMB surveys Sg Kianggeh stalls
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Although concerned authorities have
put more efforts in beautifying the business stalls at Sungai Kianggeh
in the capital, thus making them a comfortable location for stall
holders and consumers, there are still a few things that need to be
rectified, said the operators.
The Federation of Brunei Malay
Entrepreneurs (PPPMB) visited the area for two days (Friday and
yesterday) to hear recommendations from their newly-recruited members
who are small traders operating various stalls.
Leading the federation towards the
fact-finding feasibility study was the permanent chairman of the
federation, Hj Abd Rahman Yusof.
Also in the group were the other
supreme committee members of the federation, including its deputy
president Pg Shahminan Pg Hj Ismail, the secretary general Hj Ilmi Hj
Ghafar and the treasurer Hazaman Hj Abdullah.
The recommendation may also include
the shift from traditional stalls into a more modern infrastructure,
to support the growth and development of the business sector, in line
with the rapid development and modernisation of the capital, said Hj
Abd Rahman.
He said the recommendations were
meant to improve efficiency and quality so small entrepreneurs could
remain competitive in this era of globalisation and trade
liberalisation.
"Most of the concerns of the small
operators are long-term and the recommendations will improve and
beautify further, in line with its ability to attract foreign
tourists," he said.
"There is great potential if the
businesses are conducted in an improved condition and more values are
added to these products. The programme will not only spur the
revitalisation of the area but also create jobs as the location may
see a greater increase in visitors if improvements were to be
introduced.
