19 Foreign Workers Held In Police Op
By Dk Suria Rina PHA & Hj Md Said Arshad

Bandar Seri Begawan - A team of 9 CID personnel from the Royal Brunei Police Force conducted an operation codenamed "Ugan 1".

Led by AOCPD Jerudong Police District on January 1, 2004, the team detained 19 foreign workers from the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand at a house in Kg Selayun, Sengkurong.

During the raid, 4 female Filipino failed to produce valid travel documents and were brought to the Sengkurong Police Station for further investigation.

The Royal Brunei Police Force advises all employers to provide their workers with necessary immigration documents such as valid identity card and a copy of their passport for the enforcement agencies. This is to avoid all the unnecessarily problems that could be encountered by the employers and the workers themselves.

According to the Royal Brunei Police Force, a total of 48 inspections were made in the Bengkurong Masin and Mukim Pengkalan Batu area last year.

A total of 1,063 foreign workers who stayed and worked in the Sultanate were found with offences such as gambling and illegal possession of alcohol. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
