Forming Brunei Biz Development
Council
By Malai Hassan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Key players of the private sector urges the formation
of a business council that could bring together ideas and efforts on
how to grow stronger and more dynamic together.
At present there are over a dozen
business associations registered with the Registrar of Society but
only over half a dozen are really active.
And while each of these active
associations is basically formed for the same purpose, to champion the
well being and future of the business sector, their voices need to be
consolidated.
"Many have realised that this is not
healthy and supportive of the common efforts towards the common goal
of making the private sector here stronger and more dynamic," stated
Awg Haji Razali Johari, the President Malay Chamber of Commerce and
Industry.
He said to address this anomaly a
wide consensus was reached among many representatives of the Brunei
private sector to establish a 'Brunei Business Development Council'.
According to the President, several
meetings have been held and attended by office bearers and elected
representatives of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Associations and
Non Government (business) Organisations (NGOs).
"Most of us in the private sector
feel that it is time that the business community think together,
consolidate and corporate and have common business development
programmes.
"We see the need to establish a
central and focal point and a centre for disseminating and sharing
information, converging and reducing the gaps of divergence towards
common programmes for the development," explained Awang Haji Razali.
