Erosion eating away the backyard
By H Bat

Hj Tuah shows the scene after a landslip in his backyard.

Progressive erosion affects the back of a hilltop house owned by Hj Tuah Rimba.

He resides at No 152 of Jalan Laila Wijaya Perpindahan, Kg Mata-Mata in Gadong.

According to the owner, the erosion that began in 1995 has posed a constant threat to the safety of his family, especially during the rainy season.

Hj Tuah even realised that lately, the landslip has been fast approaching his downstairs kitchen and just a week ago, he also discovered one of his Cempedak trees planted nearby had collapsed.

This problem has been reported to the Housing Development Department since it started and after inspection, they in return promised to supply metal net reinforcements for safeguarding and preventing further erosion.

However, Hj Tuah was only provided with a canvas once as a temporary solution. The delay has made conditions worse.

He and his family are desperately hoping that relevant authorities could take immediate action before any mishaps occur.
