Bandar Seri
Begawan - A 35-year-old Thai woman was yesterday sent to jail
for four weeks after pleading guilty to stealing garments, which she
said were for her children in Thailand and for herself, from Seri
Pertamas Garment Manufacturer Sdn Bhd’s factory.
In the Magistrate’s Court, Srithon
Somwong was charged with stealing two T-shirts, children’s shirts, two
ladies nightwear, eight unfinished shirts, three rolls binding (bias)
and three face masks, all valued at $276.96 belonging to the garment
manufacturer.
Prosecuting Officer told the court
that Srithon had worked at the garment factory as a tailor for just
over a year.
Sometime in December last year, the
defendant’s contract was terminated and she was due to leave for
Thailand on December 30, 2003.
On December 29, the defendant was
about to leave her quarters to shop for things to bring back to
Thailand. She brought with her a blue bag containing the stolen
garments.
As she tried to pass the security
guard post at her quarters, Year Hossain, a security guard checked the
blue bag the defendant was carrying and recognised the items inside as
properties of Seri Pertamas Garment Manufacturer Sdn Bhd.
The defendant was detained and was
handed over to the police.
