Thieves break into car in Bandar,
steal cash
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Another victim fell prey to a theft
recently when thieves broke into his car parked at the parking area of
a government building in Jalan Kebangsaan Lama that houses the Labour
Department and Immigration and National Registration Department.
The thieves allegedly broke into the
car using a master key and stole cash and foreign workers' documents
which were kept inside a briefcase.
The victim said he lost more than
$200 that was money towards processing the workers' documents, and
passports as well as personal files pertaining to the processing of
the papers. He lodged a police report at the police station in the
capital. However, the briefcase was recovered minus the cash several
days later at a drain in Kg Sungai Akar by a member of the public who
handed it over to the police.
The victim said he was happy to
recover the personal documents and files.
The Bulletin also reported earlier of
a theft at the same area when a victim lost six foreign workers'
passports, which he intended to process at both agencies.
The personal documents were kept in
the bonnet and there was no evidence of forced entry suggesting the
thieves may have used a master key to enter his vehicle.
Both victims hoped for more
heightened security measures to be carried out there.
"Frequent patrolling at the car park
would deter thieves from carrying out their criminal activities there.
"However, we also suggested for
drivers not to leave behind cash and important items inside their
vehicles while attending the two departments," they said.
