Infrastructure Projects Flourish
As 2003 Winds Up
Bandar Seri
Begawan – As 2003 draws to a close, Radio Television Brunei (RTB)
takes a brief look at the various infrastructure developments around
the country over the past year.
One of the objectives of the
government through the Public Works Department is to upgrade and
improve roads and infrastructure and ensure an efficient
transportation system.
The constructions of new roads and
various road widening projects were implemented this year to open up
new areas and to increase road capacity, catering for the ever
increasing number of road users.
An example of this can be seen at
Kampong Kiarong, where a new roundabout was opened earlier in the
year.
The opening of a dual carriageway
along the Jalan Tutong-Seria Highway is just a few examples of the
various road upgrading programmes over the past year.
The total length of roads to be
upgraded, according to the Eight National Development Plan, has a
total allocation of $433.1 million for the improvement of our roads.
It is impossible not to notice the
additions to Brunei’s skyline.
New government office buildings are
attempting to cater for the ever increasing work force, and the
development of various commercial areas are showing how Brunei is
continuously changing.
There are still numerous construction
projects going on around the country.
The completion of a new shopping
building in the Gadong area, for example, will give us all something
to look forward to in 2004.
Despite the economic downturn that
has affected Brunei, RTB welcomes 2004 optimistically as there is no
reason to think that the government will discontinue the various
infrastructure developments that have been implemented over the past
few years.
Ongoing infrastructure projects show
how the government is still committed to the improvement of its
people’s prosperity. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
