New Immigration Control Post Goes
Operational Today
Bandar Seri
Begawan –The new control post of the Immigration Department in
Kampong Putat in Mukim Lumapas will be fully operational today.
The new control post replaces the
existing one at the wharf in the capital.
The new building, which was built in
June this year, was completed last August at a cost of more than
$565,000.
The building also houses other
enforcement agencies' offices such as the Customs and Excise, the
Health Department, the Narcotics Control Bureau, Internal Security
Department, the Royal Brunei Police Force, Marine, Agriculture,
Fishery and the board for issuing Halal Import Permit Section.
The new control post will deal with
the arrival and departure operation, including people coming from and
going to Limbang via the Brunei River.
The public and speed boat operators,
however, still need to pass the Jalan Residency stall area and then
report to the Putat Control Post before proceeding on to their
destinations.
A total of 12 immigration officers
and three staff are stationed daily at the post working round the
clock in three shifts.
For those who want to go to the
neighbouring state or vice versa must bring along their travel
documents and report to the immigration officer on duty at the Putat
Control Post.
Failure to comply with the regulation
is chargeable under the Immigration Act and, if found guilty, the
violators are liable to a fine of up to $2,000 and six months
imprisonment or a compound of $600 under the same Act. Failure to
abide by the provisions of the Passport Act Section 146 are liable to
a fine of up to $5,000 and three years imprisonment. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
