Stamp collectors in the sultanate and
elsewhere, especially Asean watchers, can add another prized set to
their collection, with yesterday's launch of commemorative stamps for
the Asean-Japan 2003 Exchange.
In preserving the moments of the
Asean-Japan 2003 Exchange, the Brunei Postal Services in cooperation
with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Asean Department, launched the
commemoration stamp and first day envelope for the Asean-Japan 2003
Exchange at the Mail and Parcel Processing Centre in Old Airport
Berakas - as a momentum towards the efforts and dedication of the
Japan-Asean 2003 Exchange, said Awang Ahmad bin D.S. Di-Raja Hj Md
Yusof, chairman of the launching ceremony.
The commemorative stamp comes in a
set of three stamps with each stamp at 20 cents, while the First Day
Envelope costs 45 cents each. The stamps were created by a local
artist Dayang Siti Zaleha Haji Kaprawi depicting the social life,
culture and traditional games of Brunei and Japan.
The stamps are available to the
public from December 31, 2003 at any postal counter in the country.
In the Asean-Japan 2003 Exchange many
activities have been organised for which has helped to strengthen ties
between the parties in culture, social or sports.
The Guest of Honour, Haji Azahari
Mohammad Ali, Acting Postmaster General of Brunei, was present to
launch the stamps and envelopes. It was then presented to the
Brunei-Japan Friendship Association representative, Anita Harun.
