Why Letters Are Late Official Explains

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Postal Services Department handled more than 13,041,000 mails on year 2002, which was a record.

That was one reason that led some of the mail not delivered on time.

The Permanent Secretary at the Communications Ministry Dato Haji Abdullah stated this at the concrete laying ceremony for the new Kampong Mentiri Post Office.

Dato Haji Abdullah said it is undeniable that among the causes of some of the mail delivered late was due to the staff of the Postal Services Department itself.

Others include less public cooperation in assisting postmen to do their job.

Often mail was posted without complete or incorrect addresses, houses of buildings not having any post boxes, dogs without leash, occupants changing addresses and other problems, which are beyond the department's control.

He urged the public to give its cooperation in order to attain a better quality service in the future.

The new post office located at Jalan C of the Kampong Mentiri National Housing Scheme is one of the projects under the 7th National Development Plan.

The construction of the building began in October last year and completed in one year at a cost of $358,600.

The new postal office will provide the usual postal counter services including the renewal of road tax and licences and payments of telephone, water and electricity bills.

It also has automatic telling machines for the convenience of the public living in and around the area.
