Officer And Wife Freed On Bail

Begawan - Alleged drug pushing Royal Brunei Customs Officer
Mohammad Ridzwan Hj Mansor, 31, and his 30-year-old Limbang born wife
Zaiton Hj Sahat were freed on bail yesterday.
A husband and wife team, were caught
in possession of 47.77 grammes of class A controlled drug,
Methylamphetamine and Judge Dato Steven Chong fixed a $10,000 court
bail or two sureties each for their release.
Mohammad Ridzwan, is a Customs
Officer at the Cargo Terminal at the Brunei International Airport and
his wife Zaiton face joint charge of having in their possession drugs
for trafficking in contravention of section 3A of the MDA. They are
facing charges under section 3A of the Misuses of Drugs Act, Cap 27,
which carries a jail term and whipping. If the weight is not less than
40g and not more than 100g, the maximum is 30 years jail and 15
strokes of the cane while the minimum is 20 years and 15 strokes.
The case came up at the High Court
late yesterday afternoon before Judge Chong for setting bail.
Furthermore on the application by the
Deputy Public Prosecutor Suhana Hj Sudin, the passport of the first
defendant's Sarawakian wife was ordered impounded and both have to
report to the Narcotics Control Bureau once in two weeks.
Earlier in the chambers, the DPP's
application for restraining Rizwan from using his bank account was
granted by Chief Justice Mohammed Saied.
DPP Suhana said after further
investigations both defendants will be brought back to the
Magistrate's Court on February 13 for further mention. (Courtesy of
